History

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy, University of Ilorin, was established at the commencement of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. The Department consists of staff with expertise in Gross Anatomy, Histology, Embryology and Nanotechnology. They apply these skills to a wide range of research and make novel contributions to knowledge inVeterinary Anatomy and Medicine. The Department administers the Veterinary Medicine undergraduate concentration within the DVM curriculum. Additionally, the Department offers postgraduate programs (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) and collaborates with other Departments in the Faculty to train postgraduate students.

The Department is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research, staff empowerment, community development, and services in the field of Veterinary Medicine, and Veterinary Anatomy in particular. It is aimed at producing men and women who are well-trained in all facets of the Veterinary profession, with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the areas of Veterinary practice, research, and innovations in the detection and diagnosis of animal diseases, as well as in the development of vaccines. Students are trained to be self-reliant in the field of Veterinary Medicine and practice and to be adequately prepared for postgraduate research.
